Adventures With Little B
Y’know when you say to your little one, “be sure to eat your dinner otherwise your tummy will be hungry” then they choose not to eat their dinner… and then their tummy gets hungry. It was one of those kind of evenings. So this morning we had a really uncharacteristically early start for B as he woke with a grumbling tummy. But.. this was an amazing opportunity to head out into the woods to catch the sun rising and go on a torch lit adventure.
We bundled all our gear into the van and head out to the woods, keeping an eye out for the sun to make sure we wouldn’t miss it. As we reached the woods, the clouds had sadly crept in so we had a tiny little “hello” from the sun before it tucked itself back into the cloud cover.
All the wet weather gear later, we were off into the woodland. That wonderful silence of dawn in the autumn, not even the birds were particularly chirpy. It felt safe and cosy amongst the trees and before long we were sat under the canopy of a beautiful beech tree in its autumn colours. B has a lovely way of remembering special spots based on where he had “mommy milk” so 5 minutes later, I was sat with shivering sides and a warm little B nursing on my lap.
This morning was so gorgeous. Splashing in the stream, flicking beech-nut cases into the leaf cover, eating snacks together as our toes squelched in the mud and finding the best stick to become our symbol of the Tree Protection Squad. We had a glorious morning of playful escapades before wearily wondering back just as the rain began to fall.
B is now curled up on the sofa fast asleep as I’m writing this. Fire on, coffee in hand, great start to the day.
