The Best Hot Chocolate Ever

Bold claim huh?! The BEST hot chocolate ever?! It’s a bit cheeky I know but I’ve yet to find a recipe which tastes as good as this. It’s a great base for stronger flavours, try cinnamon, dried mint, orange slices, coffee or something a little stronger for after the kids have gone to sleep.

This can be dairy free by switching out the milk to use your family favourite milk-substitute.
Whilst we’re on the subject of switches, you can switch out cocoa for cacao. Sugar can be switched out for coconut sugar for that wonderful caramel flavour too.

I’d love to know your favourite flavour combination, be sure to tell me how it goes.

Materials Needed:

  • 1 large jar to keep your mixture in

  • 3 cups cocoa powder

  • 1.5 cups sugar

  • 0.5 teaspoon of salt

To Make

  • A milk pan/saucepan

  • A whisk

  • Milk of choice; we always use oat milk when at Kith

  • Toppings of choice (we like grated chocolate orange in our house)

    • grated chocolate

    • whipped cream

    • mini marshmallows

    • crumbled ginger biscuits

      • So. Many. Options!

First, add all your dry ingredients to the jar you’ll be keeping the mix in. Give it all a good mix, pop the lid on and shake it up.

When you’re ready to use the mixture… follow these steps.

Add enough milk for each person into a pan

Add in 1/2 cup - 1 cup of the magic mixture to the milk; depending on how strong you like it and how many people you’re catering for.

Whisk it whilst it’s on the heat, you’ll notice little spherical balls appear as the powder begins to mix, it’s pretty cool to see.

It’s ready when it’s warm enough for you to drink.

Then top with whatever takes your fancy. There are a so many options!

Enjoy!
